Biography

Bao Hanzhe is a PhD student at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he specialises in the application of immersive technologies in architectural design. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan, and his Master of Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, a program renowned for its innovative approach to parameter design. With three years of professional experience spanning architectural practice and academic research, Mr. Bao has developed expertise in parametric modelling, digital fabrication, and sustainable material research. His current work focuses on Mixed Reality (MR) systems, exploring their potential to enhance interactive design and spatial perception. His interdisciplinary background bridges computational design, human-computer interaction, and material innovation.

Academic Background

Architecture Technology

Research Interest and Direction

Mr. Bao's research integrates low-tech circular material systems—such as recycled plastics and fibrous composites—with immersive digital interfaces. In his previous work, he developed an interactive digital twin framework that connects physical material processes with real-time MR environments. His ongoing investigations address embodied interaction, digital craftsmanship, and the role of MR in supporting sustainable design practices. Key areas of focus include: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in architectural and material contexts, Embodied and spatial interaction design, Digital twins for circular material flows, Mixed Reality as a tool for design and fabrication, Low-tech / high-tech hybrid fabrication methodologiesn
